Multiview alternatives compared

Every way to watch several videos on one screen falls into one of five approaches. Here is what each one can and cannot do, so you can pick by constraint rather than by brand.
Tools come and go, but the approaches are stable, and each one has a hard limit built into how it works. Pick the approach first; the tool is the easy part.
1. Broadcaster multiview
Built into a service's own app: Sky Sports, DAZN, ESPN+, F1 TV, YouTube TV for selected events.
What it does well. Properly licensed streams, sensible synchronisation, sometimes extras a third party could never offer — onboard cameras, live timing.
The hard limit. It only ever shows that service's own channels, and usually only the events they have chosen to enable. The moment one of the things you want to watch lives somewhere else, it stops being an option.
2. Embed-based multiview sites
Paste a handful of URLs into a web page and it builds a grid of embedded players. Most of the free "multiview" and "multistream" sites work this way.
What it does well. Nothing to install, and the result is a link you can send to someone.
The hard limit. It can only show video that allows itself to be embedded. Uploaders and rights holders switch embedding off constantly, live streams and premieres behave inconsistently, and anything behind a login will not appear at all. You also cannot add a video you are already watching — you need its URL, and it starts again from zero.
3. Tiled browser windows
No tool. Open each video in its own window and snap them into place with the operating system.
What it does well. Free, works with absolutely anything your browser can play, including DRM services. There is no third party in the picture.
The hard limit. Browser furniture. Every window carries a title bar, a tab strip and an address bar, which on a 1080p screen costs you a meaningful share of the display at four windows. Controls are worse than the layout: clicking into one video raises its window over the others, and the arrangement has to be rebuilt from scratch next time.
4. Picture-in-picture
The browser pops one video into a floating window that stays on top of everything else.
What it does well. Genuinely the best way to keep one video visible while you work in another app.
The hard limit. One window. Chrome allows a single picture-in-picture at a time, and the floating player has minimal controls. It is a companion, not a wall.
5. A browser extension that mirrors tabs
The extension takes the picture each tab is already showing and draws several of them together on one page.
What it does well. It is not limited to one service or to embeddable video, because it works from what the tab is showing rather than from a URL. That means a broadcaster's own player, a club stream, YouTube, Twitch and a self-hosted file can share a wall. Each screen keeps real controls: its own play/pause, its own timeline, and sound you can point at one screen or let follow the mouse.
The hard limits — two of them, and they are real.
- DRM video shows black. Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video ship their picture with protection that Chrome refuses to hand to any extension. No extension can work around this, and one that claims to is doing something else.
- You grant access per tab. Chrome will not let an extension read a tab until you explicitly say so, which is why the right-click step exists. Two seconds per video, and the price of not needing embeds.

Two questions worth asking of anything you install
What does it ask for? A tool that builds a video wall needs to see the tabs you add to it. It does not need your browsing history, your bookmarks, or access to every site you visit.
Where does the video go? Mirroring a tab to draw it on screen and uploading that stream somewhere are very different things. If a tool is vague about which it does, treat that as the answer.
